Ben Prothero Artist Blacksmith was founded in 2005.

Ben Prothero has over 16 years experience designing and making bespoke metalwork. He has a degree in visual arts from London College of Arts and has a Crafts Certificate in Blacksmithing. He worked for a number of well regarded and successful smiths before establishing his own business in Gloucestershire. Ben has run courses on blacksmithing for over 10 years and teaches in conjunction with the Royal Agricultural University and The Churn Project, helping jobless young people learn traditional crafts. He has also taught students from the Princes Trust.

Ben has a team of highly skilled blacksmiths who work for him at his well equipped forge near Stroud, Gloucestershire.

The team is always available to discuss ideas and designs in close collaboration with clients, suggesting the best options for their needs and budget. We use steel, stainless steel, bronze, copper, aluminium and iron. Our specialisms are restoration and repairs, reconstruction and conservation as well as casement windows, railings and gates.

We work with a number of conservation building companies, churches and historic building trusts. We are experienced in providing structural metalwork and specialist parts to exact engineered specifications. Our designs for local and town councils means we have made many public space structures.
